Happy New Year!
Over the Christmas holiday, Jean and I visited family and friends in Arizona. I enjoyed mild weather for my daily juggling practice. Several passersby asked how I learned to juggle.
“Practice,” I said.
Hermandad has practiced juggling in our short history too. Unexpected events cascaded across the island and we stepped forward juggling our resources. Through special appeals, you have given immediate responses. Thanks to our many supporters, we stand ready to help.
How do you learn to juggle?
Start juggling one ball, then two balls, and then three balls. In a few weeks, you have the basics of a three ball cascade pattern: throw the balls to the same spot, next ball goes up as one starts falling and a catch sparks another throw (to that same spot) without looking at your hands.
Hermandad’s efforts also require focus as we link to our Mission Statement: “Create awareness of the ongoing needs of Puerto Rican citizens addressing emergency needs and ensuring youth have post secondary opportunities to make Puerto Rico an affordable choice where they can live.”
During our upcoming island visit, we will again focus on Puerto Rican youth. Our scholarship committee recommended addressing the needs of Unit 313, both Troop and Pack of boys, girls and leaders. Annually, each of the 15 children pay $85, the 71 scouts pay $85 and the 26 leaders pay $65. These young people dedicated to leadership and service and their leaders deserve our support and recognition. We will present a check to them in the amount of $4,500 from our John (Jack) and Eunice Knight Memorial Fund.
Juggling requires focus and so does staying true to our mission. All gifts supporting Hermandad’s work cascade over and through each scout and leader. Thank you for your partnership.
