Recently, Jean and John Knight visited Boston and met Emibet Rios Roldán, a past scholarship recipient. They took her to her first Major League Baseball game. Below, Emibet tells us what she’s been doing in Boston this summer.
“My name is Emibet Ríos Roldán, and I’m a rising sophomore at the Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico studying biomedical engineering. I’m also a past recipient of the Hermandad Scholarship. This summer, I was accepted into the Broad Summer Research Program at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, where I’m conducting research in the Ellinor Lab. My work focuses on improving lab-grown cell models to better replicate how cells behave in people with advanced heart disease, specifically hypertrophic and dilated cardiomyopathy. By testing different combinations of stimuli, I hope to create more accurate models that help us better understand how these diseases work and support the development of future therapies.”
