Lura will explore music by composers that include:
- Beethoven who endured hearing loss and managed to continue his career as a musician.
- Robert and Clara Schumann, though desperately in love, her father opposed and prevented the marriage. They persevered taking the matter to court, and eventually won their right to marry.
- Shostakovich endured political persecution with threats of violence and intimidation from the Stalin regime toward both himself and his family. Despite these obstacles, he continued to write music for the Russian people.
- Bernstein’s “Somewhere,” from West Side Story, which features the discrimination and personal resolve of the New York Puerto Rican teens.
