Hermandad just finished a wonderful fundraising concert for our Jack and Eunice Knight Memorial Fund. We thank our sponsors, concert attendees, and streaming participants. Our memorial fund provides three annual leadership and service scholarships, donations to libraries, and other youth focused undertakings.

As we close the year, Hermandad has set our focus on one more endeavor. We will be sending support for the good work of Habitat for Humanity in Puerto Rico. One of their programs helps partner families complete and obtain legal paperwork needed to prove home ownership. This allows them to apply for FEMA funds.

In Puerto Rico’s culture, home ownership has been transferred from generation to generation in many cases without a legal process showing documentation. Habitat for Humanity International has offered this program in Puerto Rico for the past five years helping 618 households obtain legal documentation and assisting over 20,000 individuals.

Some assistance programs for victims of the hurricanes and earthquakes came to a close either last year or before. Habitat for Humanity International completed disaster response goals made possible by a large gift from corporate partner Abbvie. Our most recent conversation with the Habitat for Humanity Puerto Rico office in San Juan asserted their commitment to continue this program. They have seen first hand the positive effects of their work.

Hermandad has helped directly after hurricanes and earthquakes. We seek funds to do more. Jean and I have earmarked a $1,000 to Hermandad for supporting this program in Puerto Rico. As president of Hermandad, INC, I want to invite you to join us with a tax-deductible donation of any amount to Hermandad for this program. Please send your donation by Wednesday, December 20, 2023 and join us in this partnership. The need remains.

Best Wishes for the Holidays!
